Andrea Layne M.A., LMHC
Andrea graduated with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Iowa in 2020. Andrea is currently a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Iowa. She graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Human Relations from the University of Iowa.
Andrea provides psychotherapy services to adults and adolescents, at the individual and group level. She has experience providing counseling services to people with disabilities and chronic illness. Throughout and following graduate school, Andrea has remained involved in advocacy and activism for the disabled community. Andrea also spent a year working at an LGBTQIA+ Clinic, where she learned to write letters of support for transgender and non-binary clients seeking Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and Gender Affirming Surgery (GAS).
She has experience providing counseling services to clients with concerns related to adjustment to college, traumatization from sexual violence and abuse, panic disorder and panic attacks, anxiety, depression, gender dysphoria, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. Additionally, Andrea has experience providing crisis counseling services and facilitates a virtual support group to prevent secondary trauma of providers.
Andrea utilizes Humanistic Counseling, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and a Feminist Perspective. By creating a supportive counselor-client relationship, Andrea allows clients to guide their therapeutic process while still providing structure to meet counseling goals. She places emphasis on client values, identity, and diversity.
